AFM: Sony Pictures Classics Buys ‘Freud’s Last Session’ Starring Anthony Hopkins as Famed Neurologist

Sony Pictures Classics has pre-bought Freud’s Last Session , by director Matt Brown (The Men Who Knew Infinity ), and starring Oscar winner Anthony Hopkins Sigmund Freud.

The film also stars Matthew Goode (The crown , as The Chronicles of Narnia author C.S. SPC has acquired Lewis’ rights. It reunites with Hopkins following The Father. They also own the rights to North America, India, Eastern Europe (excluding Russia), and international airlines.

Written by Mark St. Germain The God Committee ), and based upon his play of the name , Freud’s Last Session takes place on the eve the Second World War. Freud invites C.S. Lewis (Goode), to a discussion about the existence of God. Innovativly, the film explores Freud’s unique relationship to his lesbian daughter Anna and Lewis’ unconventional romance with his best friend’s mom, which interweaves past, present, and fantasy.

The film is produced by Alan Greisman (The Bucket List), Rick Nicita (Hacksaw Ridge), Meg Thomson (Siren) and Hannah Leader (Gosford Park, Daliland, Blinded by the Light). In the U.K., production is scheduled to begin in January Westend Films oversees sales. The company has also struck deals in Australia, Italy (Adler), Portugal(NOS), Israel (“United King”), Greece (Spentzos) and Portugal (NOS). It also negotiated the Sony Pictures Classics agreement with CAA Media Finance.
