Kristen Stewart Named Berlin Film Festival Jury President

Actor, screenwriter and director Kristen Stewart will serve as the president of the jury at the 73rd Berlin International Film Festival in February.

Mariette Rissenbeek, festival director, and Carlo Chatrian stated that they were excited to see Kristen Stewart take on this distinguished role. “She is one of the most talented, multi-faceted actors her generation. She has given life and character to many characters, including Bella Swan and the Princess of Wales. Kristen Stewart, a young, shining, and accomplished artist, is the perfect bridge between America and Europe.

According to the fest, Stewart is “considered one Hollywood’s most important young talents.” “In 1999, at the age of nine, she celebrated her screen debut. Three years later, she appeared alongside Jodie Foster in David Fincher’s Panic room . This role earned her greater public recognition. Her international breakthrough came with the five-part Twilight saga (2008-2012). In 2010, she attended the Berlinale with the independent production Welcome to the Rileys (directed by Jake Scott). She was awarded the Orange Rising Star Award in the same year for best newcomer at BAFTAs .”

The Berlinale also mentioned her work alongside Juliette Binoche in Clouds of Sils Maria (2014), directed by French auteur Olivier Assayas and her becoming the first American to receive the French film award Cesar for her role in the film in 2015. “She continued her work alongside Assayas on Personal Shopping ,, in which she played lead,” organizers said. She made her screenwriting and directorial debut in the short film Come swim the following year. In 2018,, she was part of the international jury at Cannes Film Festival. In 2019, she made a foray into the action genre in Charlie’s Angels (directed by Elizabeth Banks) and delivered a fascinating performance in the biopic Seberg (directed by Benedict Andrews) which celebrated its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival. In 2020, she presented her next work as a director – the short film Crickets. Most recently, she wowed audiences as Princess Diana in Pablo Larrain’s film drama Spencer, garnering nominations for an Academy Award and at the Critics Choice Awards for best actress.”

Stewart also recently completed production on Love Me , with Steven Yeun and just wrapped production of Love Likes Bleeding , directed Rose Glass.

“Kristen Stewart is now one of the most eminent international actor, thrilling audiences as well as critics alike,” concluded the Berlin fest. “She is currently working on her feature-length directorial debut. It is the film adaptation of the bestseller The Chemistry of Water written by Lidia Yuknavitch .”
