Neill Blomkamp’s ‘Gran Turismo’ Movie Lands August 2023 Release in Theaters
Filmmaker Neill Blomkamp‘s video game adaptation Gran Turismo will drive into theaters on Aug. 11, 2023, Sony and Playstation Productions announced Tuesday.
No casting has been announced yet for the movie, which is based upon the blockbuster racing simulation video game by PlayStation. The film’s first logline describes it as a story about a teenager Gran Turismo player who won several Nissan competitions before becoming a professional race car driver.
Official word of the film follows the success of Sony and Playstation’s Uncharted. With a cast led by Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg, the film earned $401.5 million at the global box office this year to land at No. The film ranked fourth on the list for top-grossing videogame adaptations and third domestically.
Blomkamp, from a screenplay written by Jason Hall, will direct Gran Turismo . Asad Qizilbash, Carter Swan, and Dana Brunetti will produce for PlayStation Productions.

The video game series, developed by Polyphony Digital and produced by Kazunori Yamauchi, made its debut in 1997.
Some of the experts in the game have gone on and become professional racers through a program sponsored Sony Computer Entertainment Europe, Nissan, and Polyphony Digital. The program runs from 2008 to 2016.. Jann Mardenborough was the youngest winner of GT Academy’s competition. He played the game all through his teens.
Blomkamp is most well-known for his co-writing and directing the 2009 scifi action pic District 9 ,, which was a huge success at the box office. His other credits include Elysium.
