Paramount Pictures Hires Phil Cohen as Literary Affairs Exec

Phil Cohen joined Paramount Pictures ‘ Motion Picture Group in the role of senior VP of literary affairs.

Daria Cercek, co-presidents for the studio’s Motion Picture Group, announced the news on Thursday. Cohen, who is based in New York City will use his new role to search the publishing world for books, and other literary properties that Paramount Pictures can adapt into movies.

Paramount is Cohen’s first job at Warner Bros. Entertainment, where he was a literary executive for five-years. He sourced and developed books, comics and long-form articles for Warner Bros., New Line Cinema and Warner Bros. TV.

His Warner Bros. acquisitions included Mickey7 by Edward Ashton, which is currently in production with Bong Joon-ho writing and directing and Robert Pattinson starring. St. Martin, a Macmillan imprint, published the book.

Other acquisitions by Cohen at Warner Bros. were City of Girls by Elizabeth Gilbert, Black Leopard and Red Wolf by Marlon James, and The New World by Ales Kout. Cohen began his career at CAA in book and publishing rights, before moving to Warner Bros.
