People Keep Licking a Rare Toad in U.S. National Parks. The Reason Is a Real Trip.

Visitors to the southwest’s national parks keep kissing frogs but they don’t hope they turn into princes. The Sonoran desert toad also known as the Colorado river frog, secretes a powerful hallucinogenic venom called Bufotenin. It is four to six times stronger than DMT.

Licking the frogs can produce a short but intense psychedelic trip that lasts around 30 minutes.

But frog secretions can be very dangerous, so the National Park Service posted a warning on their Facebook Page advising people to avoid the frogs.

” These toads have prominent paratoid glands which secrete a powerful toxin,” the service said. It can cause serious illness if you touch the frogs or put the poison in your mouth. We advise against licking any of the many things you find in a national parks, such as a banana slug or an unknown mushroom. “

Toad venom is all the rage

The rare toad venom has become all the rage among celebrities such as Mike Tyson, Chelsea Handler, and Hunter Biden.

“I died during my first trip,” Tyson told The New York Post. “I’ve seen death as beautiful in my trips.” Both life and death must be beautiful. But death has a bad reputation. I learned from the toad that I won’t be here forever. There is an expiration date. “

Although toad venom was used in rituals for its healing powers for thousands of years, it has only recently become mainstream in the past ten years. Now, vacationers can go on retreats to try the rare toad-venom.

“People pay anywhere from $250 for a ceremony in the East Texas woods to $8,500 for a more gilded beachfront setting in Tulum, Mexico, to consume the toxin,” according to The New York Times. Or they can visit a national park in America’s Southwest to try to lick a Frog for free.
