The Internet Can’t Stop Watching These Swiss Workers Commuting to Work By Floating Down a River

Many people around the globe have begun to say goodbye to their daily commutes after moving to remote and hybrid work .

But for others, getting to work is much more fun and less stressful.

One TikToker named Alexa is going viral for showing viewers around the globe how she and others in Basel, Switzerland commute around the city — by floating around the Rhine River.

In a video that would make New Yorkers living near the Hudson River gag, the TikToker explains that river dwellers in Basel have a fish-shaped dry bag called the wickelfisch which holds all of their stuff. The creator states that because the current is strong, people of all ages can float up and downstream with their wickelfischs.

One viewer asked how people are able to get to their exact destinations to and from work.

” You basically have to walk back where you’re going.” she explained. “Some people use it to get from A to B. “

The TikToker also said that there are many bathrooms and showers along the route.

” “I still feel like it’s a fake thing,” one commenter said in amazement.

Another TikToker Simona Rakauskait posted a detailed video explaining how the floating commute works for the Swiss. She noted that it was a culture shock when she first arrived in Switzerland.

“People don’t jump in the river with their clothes. They put them in a bag and then bring a towel to dry it. They dry themselves with the towel and then change into their regular clothes after they get out of the water. “

She said that some commuters put laptops and other work materials in the wickelfisches in order to make the commute as quick as possible. One user laughed and said, “I’m still trying to wrap this around my brain.” “Why hasn’t the world discovered this before?” “

Wet hair or not, a leisurely float sure beats rush-hour traffic any day.
